Deployment Day Countdown: ~152
Wow it's gone fast. Surprisingly. I wish I could write a guide for women going through what I am going through. It's all about your attitude. Deployment doesn't have to be hard. You control your own emotions. Some days it feels totally unfair that no matter how badly I want to contact him, I just cannot. I have to wait for him. Every time it feels like it will be forever until he calls again, he does. After some turbulence, a near breakup to be exact, we are back on track. I forgot that I am not the only one who needs reminding. Reminding him how much I love and appreciate him is important. He is going through a lot of change and my goal, besides keeping myself happy, is to be his constant. I hope he feels like my support has gotten him through the tough stuff. His leave dates have changed and been pushed back, but we can do it! Every day I get closer to seeing him. I get butterflies just thinking about the hug and the first kiss. That feeling keeps me going
I love you Ben Gordon.
We're almost done!!!!

Interior
I talked and talked and talked about what I would do with my room at my new house. It's December now and it's not seen a lot of action. I have plain white walls and it's just a mish-mash of things. I stumbled upon some pictures on lark + linen from awhile back that have me thinking... I should feng-shui, rearrage, paint, etc.
Our house was recently painted but due to the bad timing (FINALS WEEK) I asked them to skip my bedroom. No need for paint fumes fogging my concentration or causing migraines. So, I now really want to paint it myself. I wouldn't pick anything that would disgust the landlord but it wouldn't be boring white. Of that I am certain.
Things I need to add:
1. Desk -> paint job
2. Fur throw
3. Antlers
4. Paint
Just thoughts now...

Hiatus
After a hiatus of 2+ months...I'm back! And I am a new girl. Kind of...
I graduated college. I know its an accomplishment but I am more or less sad. I am sad that I won't be able to take classes and keep refining my skills. Maybe after some relaxation I will be more excited about this milestone.
As for now just work and hobbies. Talking to boyfriend, going out to eat, napping, etc.
Goals for the new year aka New Years Resolutions:
1. Gym membership
2. Take dance classes (boyfriend bought me a pass )
3. Read
4. Learn to cook new things/try new restaurants
5. Keep up with this here blog...
Seems like a solid list to me. Hopefully I can follow through.
Heading home for the Holiday! Awaiting the arrival of my package to the boyfriend over there.. hoping he loves it!

Second to Last Free Summer Day off :(
I knew I needed to make great use of this day being that I only have Sunday off before I move and then before school starts. (Maybe one more day in between...) So I slept in. LATE. 1 pm to be exact. Then I decided to take a seat in the yard for about 30 minutes to enjoy a book and the sunlight. I have yet to get a tan this summer. More work to be done on that on Sunday I hope, provided the weather cooperates.

I haven't read enough this summer. It was nice to sit out there and soak up this sun. I had intentions of thrifting or finishing a craft project I have started but I've opted to lay in the AC watching HGTV and Skyping the bf for a bit.
Friends have a party planned this evening but I am not too interested in attending. Instead I might grab some ice cream and maybe try to finish that craft project if I feel like venturing to Michaels.
That's all for now.

Kathleen from A Cub of Tea
Posted by Sydney
Hi loves, its Kathleen here from "A Cub of Tea" filling in for the fabulous Sydney! I'm super excited to be able to guest post here on "The Daybook", and share with you one of my most favorite hobbies. I'll admit it for a long time I never understood thrifting, but let me tell you my friends it's fun, economical, and even better when you find your size. My sweet husband and I ventured out this weekend with the hopes to score some finds. We first stopped at the Junior League Thrift Store in Roslyn. It was my first visit and I can't wait to go back! It was filled with a ton of goodies! I walked out with a brand new spring bag, a leather belt and the prettiest little skirt, all for eighteen bucks! We were looking forward to dropping in on another shop in the area but unfortunately we lost track of time and it had closed before we arrived. It's okay though, we instead opted for strawberry ice cream and root beers.
Some secret suggestions for a sweet thrifting experience:
1. Patience: don't get discouraged if you aren't finding items quickly
2. Alert eyes (seek out the good stuff)
3. Keep an open mind: Look at a piece not for what it is, but for what it could be.
4. Do your research: Many thrift shops donate their profits to good causes, which ultimately means your money will go to needy organizations and charities. It's a win win situation!
5. Be selective: Just because your buying second hand doesn't mean you should be filling your closets with poor quality clothes.
6. Scrutinize: Before you purchase any item check for stains, rips, holes, cracks, chips, and broken zippers. It will save you from disappointment when you get home.

Work, Work, Work, School?
Yes. It's only 2 weeks away now. WHOA. That came fast. It feels like just yesterday was my last final of the spring semester where I spent the wee hours of the morning kissing the bf goodbye. He has been gone now since the middle of May. Officially since June 1st and it is almost September! That means, deployment is moving along quickly. And just as a personal reminder I love him more and more every single day even though we are apart. =)
I am a little nervous to start school. While I am sure I will enjoy it, I am not sure I'll be able to immediately crack down on homework. I also have not discussed my latest temptation: a teaching position. I spontaneously applied to something I saw in an email from the Spanish department at school. Did not spend too much time thinking about it although I had been thinking of finding something in the near future. So when this presented itself I thought, hey why not? So I sent my resume, which does have some teaching experience on it along with teaching classes I have taken. I scheduled an interview and was on my way about 3 days later. Faster than I expected. Okay. While getting ready I decided "What would I wear in a classroom?" Not some stiff suit-like ensemble that's for sure. Even though that is the typical interview attire I just didn't want to seem too anxious. So instead I wore, khaki pants (I need to find a new pair ASAP), flats, a floral print top, a white cardigan and put a cute braid in my hair. I thought that was teacher-like.
It went fantastically. The interviewer and conveniently the owner of the Academy and myself totally clicked. She admired my passion for foreign language and commended my understand for both students who love them and those who just hate them. I get it. It's not for everyone. She even told me she felt strongly about me as a candidate and I told her I would love to pursue the opportunity.
I could see it. Senorita Millen. Sounds cute. I need to email her now to follow up.
And for other news. Which is definitely not 100% probably not even 50% but nevertheless something to possibly anticipate. The boyfriend has a trip coming up. He's coming stateside! What a relief for maybe 2 weeks? I can't remember. Anyway the important part is that this trip may allow a small window of time for a girlfriend visit! He already promised I could fly to see him if it all worked out and he had some time off! I would DIE and cry. What a nice thing it would be!
Puhlease keep your fingers and toes crossed for me!!! For us!

My Life
I haven't blogged in over 1 week! I've been up to a lot! I've thrifted a few times and hmm what have a found? A lovely antique trunk. Not thrifted but from a resale shop anyway for $36 in which I will store my scarves and shoes and maybe some other things.
Isn't she darling?
I also made some full priced item purchases which is a rareity but nevertheless important especially at this time of year. I was in the market for new fall boots, a blazerish jacket and a leather jacket. I found the first two.
The boots. Steve Madden. Divine. From DSW.
found here
A blazer from H&M
can be found here
I also did find a leather jacket about a week ago at one of my favorite shops. Unique thrift of course. It is black and kind of biker-ish which I wanted but not as bad as I still want a nice camel colored leather jacket. I will find one!!!!
Another update to mention is the moving process. Its gone very well. My mom came just yesterday to take a large load of things back to Wisconsin so that we have less to move next week. And it was a good idea! I filled her entire car which was a relief. It will be filled again next week but I just wont think about it yet. She was a great help and aside from the side swipe that occurred to my mom's car the day went pretty well.

Day off? Who knew?
Tomorrow is my first day off in...10 days! I almost don't know what to do with it. I almost wish I could go to work. But I do have some things I need to do.
-phone calls: moving things. booooring. hopefully they are quick and painless.
-cleaning: need to get this done.
-crafting: small project for my new house
-packing: just trying to get unneeded items out of the way
-reading: better late than never
-send boyfriend package: soooo overdue. I am really sorry I haven't done anything for my lover yet.

Stalking, no not a boy or on Facebook
They jacked up the f*cking price. Not just a little bit. $30. Seriously? So the last few days I've been checking back and its steadly down now almost $20. I told myself I want to wait $5 more and move in for the kill.
I am justifying this purchase on the 5 days of overtime pay I will get next week and one from this last.
I'll get you my pretty.
My newest musical obsessions?
Well I picked up tickets to these guys today:
Airborne Toxic Event
And also on my must see list now:
Foster the People
this song is addicting.
Just noticed they will also be in my city soon. Maybe I'll try to snatch tickets somewhere...
Update: Monday...
Been working 7 days straight now...going on until Thursday. I hope the over time is sweet. I haven't done much lately. Watching movies and organizing things for my move. Today I needed a break after work. I came home and waited a minute for my bf to come online but sadly he was sleepy and never made it.
So now I'm waiting again to see if he comes on anytime soon.
So for my relief/break I headed out to do what I do best: thrift.
I felt guilty because I am pondering two large purchases right now and trying to save for rent and vacation next year but a little relief is nothing to feel guilty about (at least not for too long).
I went to one of my favorite places, not really in search of anything special lately other than the few things I am always searching for. Found one. A vintage Dooney and Bourke. Seems the Coach trend has caught on as I don't see as many any more. Oh well. I like the Dooneysss too!
I also found a movie on my thrift list: Mary Poppins. Need to pop that in before bed. I also found this cute hand painted bud vase from Thailand. Yay. Like the colors. Like the shape. I think I'll put a feather in it.
As for the item I am stalking. Still not down as far as I want it to be :( I only need it to go down a few more dollars before I can convince myself to go ahead and get it. Only problem: I'm moving soon. I'll have to move it too. So I might wait but I am afraid it might go up again! So I have decisions to make, and fast, once the price goes down.
My other large purchase I am pondering: a new computer. Just have to wait for my parents to okay the "loan." I have enough to buy it I just don't to empty my savings that much.
crossing fingers that dad decides to help me out.
Goodnight Monday plleeeaaaseee ask the Skype Gods to find my boy

Passion, Dedication, Love and most importantly: Perseverance
This title probably seems ominous and probably gives a strange impression. I'd like to dedicate this short post to a girl I know. She and I have been communicating back and forth lately and she has just reminded me a lot that I do not have things that bad.
THINGS I AM THANKFUL FOR:
1. My family. They help me do a lot. Almost everything.
2. My boyfriend. He is by far the most loving and respectful man to me and anyone and I am so lucky to call him mine.
3. My friends. She is becoming one more and more everyday and its people like her that I admire and think 'I am glad she is my friend.'
She made me think of all of these things because of what she has been going through lately. Despite everything, she has pushed through it all and continues to wake up each morning for herself and works very hard.
I want her to know that she can have anything she wants and if she continues to work hard and stay away from the bad in her life she can get through things. I would like to send some good vibes her way since I have a lot of things going well for me right now.

Recent Purchases
I promised some pictures of my recent purchases. Mixed in some random shots... practicing with Instagram.
One of my DIY cactus terrariums. Isn't she precious =)
Super colorful planter outside of an office building.
New jewelry box
Mirrored rimmed tray I was searching for.
My bike!
An edited construction sign. Too funny.
My rimmed tray and makeshift vanity area
Soap dish? I'll use it for earrings.
Hopefully I'll have a post soon with a ghost chair in it. *crossing fingers*
My thrift/wish/favs list is grooooowing...
Whoa have I fallen in love with some new things. One that I really want and sincerely intend to purchase once I can stomach the shipping charge (unless I find it elsewhere...)

Ghost Chair.
It speaks for itself. I just find it entirely too girly and perfect for it not to make its way into my bedroom. And if I.... stop thrifting for 2 weeks? I could splurge on this. Easily. I would just search for the perfect fur throw or nice pillow to make it just perfect.
What else have I fallen for lately?
